Blacksmithing Leveling Guide
for WoW Forever (1-300)
Blacksmithing forges plate armor, weapons and sharpening stones from metal bars. It is the natural pick for Warriors and Paladins who wear what they make, and the only profession that feeds Enchanters a steady diet of rods. It is also famously expensive: bars are the bottleneck from 1 to 300.
Beta note: WoW Forever keeps the Classic 1-300 profession structure, the rank gates match Classic (see the table below) and new recipes have been datamined, so details can shift between beta snapshots. The routes below are Classic-tested; check the current recipe before buying materials in bulk.
Blacksmithing skill brackets and ranks
WoW Forever uses the Classic rank gates, so use these. You cannot train the next rank until you meet both the character level and the skill minimum.

Blacksmithing leveling route: 1 to 300
Stones first, then gear. The thorium brackets are the most expensive stretch of any profession, so line up your ore supply before you start them.

Recipe sources
- Every leveling recipe is trainer-taught. The only exception is the finish: Imperial Plate Bracers come from Thorium Brotherhood hand-in quests in Gadgetzan (see Derotain Mudsipper; the bracer quest costs 20 Thorium Bars).
- Expert trainer: Bengus Deepforge in Ironforge or Saru Steelfury in Orgrimmar. Artisan: Brikk Keencraft in Booty Bay.
- At 200+ you choose a permanent specialization: Armorsmith or Weaponsmith (which splits further into Axe, Hammer or Sword). The leveling route is the same either way, so decide based on what you want to craft at 300.
Where to farm ore
- Pair with Mining and gather while questing: copper and tin early, iron in Arathi and the Badlands, mithril in the Hinterlands and Tanaris, thorium in Winterspring, Un'Goro and Silithus.
- Blue and Yellow Power Crystals come from Un'Goro Crater and need no Mining skill.
Making gold with Blacksmithing
- Silver and Golden Rods sell to leveling Enchanters on every server.
- Sharpening stones are cheap to make and always sell to melee classes.
- The Sulfuron Hammer (material for the legendary Hand of Ragnaros) is the jackpot craft if you can get the recipe.
Best professions to pair with Blacksmithing
Mining. There is no serious alternative: you need hundreds of bars, and buying them all will bankrupt you.
Blacksmithing in WoW Forever: what is new
Over 200 new Blacksmithing recipes have been datamined for Forever, plus Forever-only belt buckles for the waist slot. Your camp buff is Strength, which does not stack with a Shaman's Strength of Earth. First campfire object at skill 20, stronger tiers at 140 and 200.

Is Blacksmithing worth leveling in WoW Forever?
Yes for plate wearers who want their own gear, and for anyone who likes crafting for profit at 300. It is a gold sink while leveling, so go in with a plan.
Armorsmith or Weaponsmith?
Armorsmith suits tanks and anyone crafting plate; Weaponsmith suits players chasing weapon crafts. Both are permanent, so check what sells on your server before choosing.
Why is Blacksmithing so expensive?
The thorium brackets need over 700 bars. Mining your own ore, or leveling alongside a miner friend, cuts the cost enormously.
What sells while leveling Blacksmithing?
Rods to enchanters, sharpening stones to melee classes, and Steel Plate Helms to leveling Warriors and Paladins.
