WoW Forever Racials Tier List
The best racial for a battleground may offer little in a raid. Compare races for PvE, PvP and leveling separately, then weigh the highest-ranked options against your class and preferred role.
Rankings use beta build 1.60.1.70235 (October 2026) and may change before launch. Exact effects are listed in the WoW Forever racials guide.
Purchase note: both Skyborne races currently require the Skyborne Hero Pack or higher. They are marked below so you can separate in-game strength from the real-world cost of access.
How to read racial tier list
S-tier racials offer the strongest or most widely useful benefits for the activity. A-tier choices are strong alternatives; B-tier benefits are more situational. C-tier racials have fewer useful applications in that category. Your class, role and group composition still matter more than a single racial.
PvE Racial Tier List (Raids and Dungeons)
Throughput wins. The best PvE racials are the ones that turn directly into damage or healing on a boss: flat stat cooldowns, crit, haste, and cost reduction.
S Tier: Best PvE Races
- Orc: Blood Fury gives +10% Attack Power AND Spell Power for 15 seconds on a 2-minute cooldown, with no healing penalty. Melee, casters, and healers all get a real cooldown out of one racial, which is why Orc tops the list for both factions' worth of classes.
- Night Elf: Elune's Light is +10% crit for 15 seconds on a 3-minute cooldown. Crit scales with everything, the cooldown is short enough to use on most boss fights, and Shadowmeld still has real utility for skipping trash in dungeons.
- Gnome: Eureka! makes your next 3 non-periodic damaging abilities cost 10% less and deal 10% more damage, on a 2-minute cooldown (Priests also get the boost on healing spells; damage-over-time spells get nothing). Line it up with your biggest spells. Expansive Mind adds +5% max Mana, Rage, or Energy on top, so the passive pulls weight too.
A Tier: Strong PvE Races
- Human: Sword Specialization is a passive +2% crit whenever a sword is equipped, which is free damage on every pull with zero thought. Will to Survive rarely matters in raids, so Human sits below the races with real throughput cooldowns.
- High Order Skyborne (paywalled): Wind Blessed is a passive +1% to all haste, always on, no cooldown to mismanage. Read Ley Line doubles health and mana regen for 15 seconds on a 2-minute cooldown. Solid numbers, but they cost the Hero Pack.
- Troll: Berserking gives +10% attack and cast speed for 10 seconds on a 3-minute cooldown. The old scaling with missing health is gone in the current build, so it is a flat, reliable haste button now.
B Tier: Average PvE Races
- Dwarf: Mace Specialization is +1% crit with a mace equipped, and Big Game Hunter is +5% damage against Beasts. Both are real but narrow: the crit is half of Human's sword bonus, and Beast damage only matters on beast bosses.
- Windshaper Skyborne (paywalled): same +1% all-haste passive from Wind Blessed as the Alliance version, always on with nothing to manage. Skysight's movement speed does nothing for your damage meter, and Walk on Air rarely matters on a boss. You are paying the Hero Pack price for a passive that High Order gets too.
- Tauren: Endurance gives +5% Health and +1% hit. The hit is genuinely useful for reaching hit caps, but health does not kill bosses faster.
C Tier: Weakest PvE Race
- Undead: nothing here converts to boss damage. Cannibalize does not work mid-fight, and Touch of the Grave is a small self-heal proc (10% for casters, 5% for melee, 1-second internal cooldown; see the note below). Fine race, wrong tier list.

PvP Racial Tier List (Battlegrounds and Arena)
Control-breakers win. The best PvP racials get you out of crowd control or keep you from being locked down in the first place. Raw damage cooldowns matter less when you spend half the fight stunned.
S Tier: Best PvP Races
- Human: Will to Survive clears all stuns on a 3-minute cooldown. Stuns decide more games than any other crowd control, and having your own answer to them on top of your trinket is enormous.
- Gnome: Escape Artist breaks roots and snares on a 2-minute cooldown and grants 3 seconds of immunity after. Melee cannot stick to you, and you get to choose when the escape happens.
- Orc: Hardiness cuts all stun durations by 20% passively, and Shatter Curse clears Curses and Banes on a 3-minute cooldown while cutting magic damage taken by 15% for 8 seconds. Two separate defensive layers with no button-press timing to get wrong on the passive half.
A Tier: Strong PvP Races
- Dwarf: Stoneform dispels Bleed, Poison, and Disease effects and makes you immune to them, while reducing physical damage taken by 10% for 8 seconds, on a 3-minute cooldown. It answers rogues, warriors, and hunters all at once.
- Undead: Will of the Forsaken clears Charm, Fear, and Sleep on a 2-minute cooldown. The old immunity window is gone in Forever, so it is a break, not a shield. Still one of the best answers to priest and warlock fear chains.
- Night Elf: Shadowmeld on a 10-second cooldown (2 minutes if used in combat) enables drinks, re-stealths, and objective plays that no other racial offers. Quickness adds +1% dodge and +2% movement speed, which is small but always working.
B Tier: Average PvP Races
- Tauren: War Stomp stuns up to 5 enemies within 8 yards for 2 seconds on a 2-minute cooldown. A real interrupt and peel tool, but it requires you to be in melee range of people who are trying to kill you.
- Troll: Rapid Regeneration restores 50% of max health over 6 seconds on a 3-minute cooldown. Strong when it goes off, but good players interrupt or burst through it.
C Tier: Weakest PvP Races
- High Order Skyborne and Windshaper Skyborne (both paywalled): Walk on Air's 10-second glide on a 2-minute cooldown is fun and occasionally useful for positioning, but neither Skyborne kit breaks crowd control. You are paying for mobility, not answers.
Leveling 1-30 Racial Tier List
Sustain and mobility win. While leveling, the best racials cut your downtime between pulls, speed up your travel, or multiply the value of gathering. Cooldowns with 2-3 minute timers matter less when most fights last 15 seconds.
S Tier: Fastest Leveling Races
- Undead: Cannibalize restores 7% health AND 7% mana every 2 seconds for 10 seconds off any nearby corpse, on a 2-minute cooldown. Corpses are everywhere while questing, so your downtime nearly disappears. The mana return is the real prize for casters.
- Tauren: Cultivation grows a duplicate herb you can harvest without training Herbalism at all, which is free gold and free skill-ups from level 1. Plainsrunning stacks +1% movement speed every 5 seconds you keep moving, up to +30%, which adds up across hundreds of quest turn-ins.
A Tier: Good Leveling Races
- Dwarf: Big Game Hunter is +5% damage against Beasts, and a huge share of 1-30 quest mobs are beasts. It quietly speeds up most of your early kills.
- Troll: Beast Slaying gives the same +5% against Beasts, and Rapid Regeneration's 50% heal over 6 seconds on a 3-minute cooldown saves you from corpse runs after bad pulls.
- Human: The Human Spirit gives +5% Spirit, which means faster mana and health regen between every pull. Unflashy, always working.
B Tier: Average Leveling Races
- Gnome: Eureka!'s 10% damage boost on your next 3 non-periodic abilities speeds up kills on a 2-minute cycle, and Escape Artist gets you out of the roots and snares that quest elites love. Good, not transformative.
- Night Elf: Quickness gives +2% movement speed permanently, and Wisp Spirit's +75% ghost run speed cuts the sting of every death. Shadowmeld lets you walk past mobs you do not want to fight.
- Orc: Blood Fury's 15-second burst is overkill for normal quest mobs, and Hardiness barely matters when nothing stuns you before level 30. Orc is a raiding race, not a leveling race.
C Tier: Slowest Leveling Races
- High Order Skyborne and Windshaper Skyborne (both paywalled): Walk on Air's glide and the regen actives are genuinely nice while questing, but they sit behind the Hero Pack. Paying real money to level slightly faster is a bad trade.
Pair these picks with an efficient route: the leveling guides cover every class from 1 to 30 and beyond.
Undead Touch of the Grave Proc Chance
Undead's passive drains health from targets you damage, capped at 5% of your max HP per proc. The beta client now confirms the split: 10% proc chance for casters, 5% for melee, with a 1-second internal cooldown, and it does not break crowd control. Casters get the better rate, which helps Undead casters in PvP; melee still works off the 5% number.
Priest Racial Spells in WoW Forever
Two famous priest racials are now baseline: every priest learns Fear Ward and Devouring Plague at level 20, regardless of race. That leaves each race with its own pair on top of the shared toolkit.
- Human: Divine Grace (new) plus Feedback.
- Dwarf: Desperate Prayer plus Chastise (new).
- Night Elf: Starshards plus Elune's Grace.
- Gnome: Confounding Flash (new) plus Contingency Plan (new, 5-minute cooldown per Blizzard). The new Gnome Priest combo pairs these with Escape Artist, which is a lot of control for one small caster.
- Troll: Hex of Weakness plus Shadowguard.
- Undead: Touch of Weakness plus Dark Sacrifice (new).
Dwarf and Human priests look strongest on paper: Desperate Prayer is a proven emergency button, and Human gets Will to Survive alongside its pair. Full details on each class live on the priest page and the spell reference.
New Race-Class Combinations in WoW Forever
WoW Forever unlocks six combos Classic never allowed: Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Gnome Priest, Orc Mage, Undead Paladin, and Troll Warlock. A few change the math above. Orc Mage gets Blood Fury's spell power on a class that scales brutally with it. Undead Paladin gets Will of the Forsaken on the class most vulnerable to fear. Human Hunter pairs Sword Specialization's irrelevance (hunters use ranged weapons) with Will to Survive, which is still excellent in PvP. Dwarf Shaman finally gives the Alliance a shaman with Stoneform. Class-by-class breakdowns live under class comparisons.
WoW Forever Racials FAQs
Which race is best for PvE in WoW Forever?
Orc takes the top spot. Blood Fury gives +10% Attack Power AND Spell Power for 15 seconds on a 2-minute cooldown with no healing penalty, which every DPS and healer in the game can line up with other cooldowns. Night Elf and Gnome sit right behind it.
Which race is best for PvP in WoW Forever?
Human edges it out. Will to Survive clears all stuns on a 3-minute cooldown, and stuns decide more arena games than any other crowd control. Gnome and Orc are close behind with Escape Artist and Hardiness plus Shatter Curse.
Are the Skyborne races worth buying the Hero Pack for?
Probably not for power alone. Walk on Air gives a 10-second glide on a 2-minute cooldown and Wind Blessed gives +1% all haste, which are genuinely good, but no Skyborne racial wins a raid spot or an arena match by itself. Buy the pack because you want the race, not because you need the racials.
Will racial values change again before launch?
Almost certainly. These values come from beta build 1.60.1.70235 from October 2026, and values already changed mid-beta: Gnome's Eureka! was reduced from 50% to 10% in the September 24 build. The game launches November 4 2026, so treat every number here as current, not final.
What is going on with Undead's Touch of the Grave?
The beta client now confirms the split: 10% proc chance for casters, 5% for melee, with a 1-second internal cooldown and no crowd-control breaks. It drains health up to 5% of your max HP per proc. Casters get the better rate; melee works off the 5% number.
Which race levels fastest from 1 to 30?
Undead and Tauren. Cannibalize returns 7% health AND 7% mana every 2 seconds for 10 seconds off any corpse, which nearly removes downtime. Tauren's Cultivation grows a duplicate herb you can harvest without Herbalism, and Plainsrunning stacks up to +30% movement speed while you keep moving.
Beta disclaimer: every value above comes from beta build 1.60.1.70235 (October 2026). The game launches November 4, 2026. Values already changed mid-beta: Gnome's Eureka! was reduced from 50% to 10% in the September 24 build. Expect more changes before launch, and check the racials page for the latest numbers if you are reading this after release.
