Leveling Guide (1-60)

WoW Forever leveling guide for all classes, levels 1 to 60

Leveling in WoW Forever will feel familiar if you played Classic, but the road to 60 has a few new turns. The XP curve is nearly identical to Classic. Blizzard measured 1-20 at 20.5 hours in Forever versus 20.4 in Classic, and there is no level scaling, so outleveling a zone still means moving on.

Dungeons changed the most. Trash mobs give less XP than they used to, but dungeon quests give more, so the smart play is running each dungeon once for its quests and then getting back out into the world. New dungeons fill every bracket, starting with Hall of Thanes (13-18) and ending at Shaper's Terrace (58-60).

Two more things worth knowing before you start: rested XP only works on kill XP, not quest turn-ins, so log out in an inn or capital city whenever you stop. And cooked food now gives an XP buff, while every profession can craft camp objects (from skill 20) that grant hour-long buffs, so leveling with Cooking and a gathering profession pays off.

Leveling tier list

Ranked by how fast and smoothly each class reaches 60: kill speed, downtime between pulls, travel time, and surviving bad pulls. Tap a class for its full leveling guide.

Beta projection. Balance patches will move things around.

No class is unplayable. These tiers measure speed and comfort, not whether you can finish. Every class clears the same content.

How leveling works in WoW Forever

XP and rested XP. The total XP from 1 to 60 matches Classic. Rested XP accumulates in inns and capitals and doubles kill XP only. Quest XP is unaffected, so spend rested time grinding mobs, not turning in quests.

Dungeons. Run each dungeon once for its quests. Full dungeon grinding is weaker than it was in Classic because mob XP was cut. New dungeons appear in every level bracket, so check the dungeon list for your range instead of defaulting to the Classic route.

Heirlooms. A few heirloom items exist for leveling, including the Ladimore Heirloom Ring and the Master Hunter's Spellsword. They are worth picking up early if you have access. The XP bonus adds up over 60 levels.

Camping and food buffs. Cooked food grants an XP buff, and camp objects crafted by professions (first recipes at skill 20, blueprints drop from dungeon bosses) give hour-long buffs. Level Cooking alongside a gathering profession and you will level noticeably faster.

No level scaling. Zones have fixed level ranges. If quests turn grey, move to the next zone. Staying just means slow XP.

General leveling tips

Leveling FAQs

How long does 1-60 take in WoW Forever?

About the same as Classic. Blizzard's own measurement put 1-20 at 20.5 hours versus 20.4 in Classic, and the full curve matches. Expect 5-8 days /played for most players, less for Hunters and Mages.

What is the fastest leveling class?

Hunter, by consensus. A Beast Mastery pet tanks for you from level 10, downtime is near zero, and the class is forgiving of mistakes.

Should I level with dungeons or questing?

Both. Quest through zones, and run each dungeon once for its (buffed) quest XP. Pure dungeon grinding is weaker than in Classic.

Do professions matter while leveling?

Cooking yes. The food XP buff is free speed. Gathering professions fund your mount at 40. Crafting professions can wait until 60 unless you want specific gear.

Will the beta change leveling?

Yes, and it already has: 23 new Warlock talents, a reworked Paladin kit, new dungeons per bracket. Talent picks in the class guides are labeled as beta-testing notes and will be updated as builds land.
