Fishing Leveling Guide
for WoW Forever (1-300)
Fishing supplies Cooking and Alchemy with raw materials straight from the water. It is slow and meditative, the opposite of a speed-leveling profession, but the catches fund your cooking and sell well the whole way up.
Beta note: WoW Forever keeps the Classic 1-300 profession structure, the rank gates match Classic (see the table below) and new recipes have been datamined, so details can shift between beta snapshots. The routes below are Classic-tested; check the current recipe before buying materials in bulk.
Fishing skill brackets and ranks
WoW Forever uses the Classic rank gates, so use these. You cannot train the next rank until you meet both the character level and the skill minimum.

Fishing leveling route: 1 to 300
Fish where you cannot get escapes: open water lets fish get away, which wastes casts. Lures add effective skill and speed everything up.

Fishing materials shopping list
No crafted materials at any bracket. The only costs are lures, the Expert book and a better pole:
- 1x Fishing Pole
- About 2 stacks of Shiny Baubles (+25 skill)
- 5 to 10x Nightcrawlers
- About 1 stack of Bright Baubles (+75 skill)
- Aquadynamic Fish Attractors (+100) when you can get them
- 1x Expert Fishing: The Bass and You (1 gold, Old Man Heming, Booty Bay)
- One pole upgrade: Big Iron Fishing Pole (+20, fished from the Shellfish Trap in Desolace)
Training notes
- Catches per skill-up slow down as you climb: about 1 catch per point early, rising to around 10 per point past 290. Settle in.
- Fish pools when you see them: they give better catches and skill up faster than open water.
- Nightfin Snapper only bites at night; Winter Squid only on winter coasts. Plan around them if you are chasing those markets.
Fishing zones by tier
- Tier 1: starter water. Tier 2: Westfall and the Barrens (Oily Blackmouth). Tier 3: Desolace and Dustwallow (Firefin Snapper). Tier 4: Feralas and Tanaris (Stonescale Eel, Nightfin Snapper, Winter Squid).
Making gold with Fishing
- Deviate Fish sells on the Auction House all the way up.
- Oily Blackmouth and Firefin Snapper feed Alchemy; Stonescale Eel becomes Stonescale Oil.
- Nightfin Snapper cooks into Nightfin Soup (around 12 gold a stack); Winter Squid becomes Grilled Squid, premium hunter and rogue food.
Best professions to pair with Fishing
Cooking, unanimously. The classic combined Fishing and Cooking route levels both at once. Alchemy benefits indirectly from the fish you catch.
Fishing in WoW Forever: what is new
3 new Fishing recipes were datamined. Your camp buff is 8% increased stats, which does not stack with a Paladin's Blessing of Kings: one of the strongest camp buffs in the game. The Legacy Luremaster perk grants extra fish.
Fishing leveling FAQs
Is Fishing profitable?
Steadily, yes. The catches feed Cooking and Alchemy, and Deviate Fish, Stonescale Eel and Winter Squid always have buyers.
Do I need lures?
They speed things up enormously. Shiny Baubles early, Bright Baubles later, Aquadynamic Fish Attractors when you can afford them.
What is the Nat Pagle quest?
Angler Extreme, at 225 skill and level 35. Catch four rare fish across the continents and Nat Pagle teaches you Artisan Fishing.
Fishing or Cooking first?
Level them together. The combined route is the classic for a reason: every catch is a future meal.
