Mining Leveling Guide
for WoW Forever (1-300)
Mining pulls ore, stone and gems out of the world for Blacksmiths and Engineers, and sells the surplus for some of the most reliable gathering gold in the game. The route is simple: follow the veins, smelt everything, move zones when nodes turn green.
Beta note: WoW Forever keeps the Classic 1-300 profession structure, the rank gates match Classic (see the table below) and new recipes have been datamined, so details can shift between beta snapshots. The routes below are Classic-tested; check the current recipe before buying materials in bulk.
Mining skill brackets and ranks
WoW Forever uses the Classic rank gates, so use these. You cannot train the next rank until you meet both the character level and the skill minimum.

Mining leveling route: 1 to 300
Mine veins for skill-ups and smelt the ore for extra points at low levels. When a vein type turns green, move to the next zone bracket.

Mining materials shopping list
Mining has no fixed material quotas: skill comes from nodes, not crafts. Two things to know:
- 1x Mining Pick (cheap from any trade vendor; keep it in your bags, you cannot mine without it)
- Power-level shortcut: buy roughly 50x Copper Ore, 50x Silver Ore and 30x Gold Ore off the Auction House, smelt them all, and resell the bars
Training and special smelts
- No recipes to buy for leveling; Smelting is learned from Mining trainers.
- Two special smelts: Smelt Dark Iron needs the Black Forge inside Blackrock Depths; Smelt Elementium needs a Priest's Mind Control in Blackwing Lair.
Farming tips
- Check every cave: nodes spawn inside as well as outside.
- Rich Thorium veins can contain Arcane Crystals, the most valuable mining drop in the game.
- Teldrassil has no copper: night elf miners should head to Darkshore early.
Making gold with Mining
- Arcane Crystals from Rich Thorium are the jackpot: every Arcanite Bar needs one.
- Dark Iron Ore from Blackrock Depths sells to crafters constantly.
- Bars often sell better than raw ore (except Silver), so smelt before listing.
Best professions to pair with Mining
Blacksmithing or Engineering: unanimous. Skinning or Herbalism as the second gatherer for pure gold; Herbalism plus Mining is the classic Resource Baron combo.
Mining in WoW Forever: what is new
Mining's camp buff is Melee Attack Power, which does not stack with a Paladin's Blessing of Might. The Legacy Bountiful Harvest perk can grant extra ore from scarce nodes. 5 new Mining recipes were datamined.
Mining leveling FAQs
Should I smelt everything I mine?
Yes while leveling: smelting gives skill-ups at low levels and bars usually sell better than ore.
Mining or Herbalism for gold?
Both are strong. Ore demand spikes when crafters gear up; herb demand is steadier because raiders always need consumables.
Where is the best thorium?
Winterspring and Un'Goro Crater for density; the Burning Steppes and Eastern Plaguelands as backups.
Do I need to keep the Mining Pick?
Yes, keep one in your bags. You cannot mine without it.
