Skinning Leveling Guide
for WoW Forever (1-300)
Skinning turns the beasts you were going to kill anyway into leather for Leatherworkers and gold on the Auction House. It is the lowest-friction profession in the game: no nodes to hunt, no recipes to learn, just a skinning knife and a habit.
Beta note: WoW Forever keeps the Classic 1-300 profession structure, the rank gates match Classic (see the table below) and new recipes have been datamined, so details can shift between beta snapshots. The routes below are Classic-tested; check the current recipe before buying materials in bulk.
Skinning skill brackets and ranks
WoW Forever uses the Classic rank gates, so use these. You cannot train the next rank until you meet both the character level and the skill minimum.

Skinning leveling route: 1 to 300
Skill comes from corpses, not crafts. Skin beasts near your skill level: too low gives nothing, too high cannot be skinned.

Skinning materials shopping list
Skinning needs no materials at all:
- 1x Skinning Knife (cheap from any trade vendor; keep it in your bags)
- No crafts, no quotas: skill comes from corpses
- You can skin a beast killed by someone else, so there is no node competition
Training and skinning rules
- No patterns, formulas or recipes exist. Train each rank from Skinning trainers.
- Skinnable mob level rule: below 100 skill it is (skill / 10) + 10; at 100 and above it is skill / 5.
Farming tips
- Skin everything while questing and you will hit 300 without ever farming.
- To rush it, pick dense beast zones: Feralas yetis and Un'Goro for the late brackets.
- Fast power-level variant: Westfall to 100, Hillsbrad Foothills to 200, Un'Goro to 300.
Making gold with Skinning
- Devilsaur Leather (Un'Goro): 5 to 15 gold each. Devilsaur Gauntlets need 12, Leggings need 16, and melee classes never stop wanting them.
- Core Leather (Molten Core hounds): 3 to 10 gold. Onyxia Scale: 5 to 20 gold.
- Black Dragonscales, Scorpid Scales and Green Dragonscales all sell; even plain Rugged and Thick Leather move in stacks.
Best professions to pair with Skinning
Leatherworking is the natural partner. For pure gold, take Mining or Herbalism as your second gatherer.
Skinning in WoW Forever: what is new
Skinning's camp buff is Critical Strike Chance, which does not stack with a Druid's Moonkin Aura. The Legacy Bountiful Harvest perk can grant extra leather from beasts. 3 new Skinning recipes were datamined.

Is Skinning worth it without Leatherworking?
Yes. Leather sells on its own, and Devilsaur Leather is one of the best single-item gold farms in the game.
What is the fastest way to level Skinning?
Skin while you quest; it costs zero extra time. Rushing means dense beast zones like Feralas and Un'Goro.
Do I need a Skinning Knife?
Yes, keep one in your bags. It is cheap from any trade goods vendor.
Can I skin other players' kills?
Yes. You can skin a beast killed by someone else, so group up in beast-heavy zones.
