Level-30 beta Mage Frost Control build
Level-30 Frost PvP control · 0 / 0 / 21 · 21 standard talent points. Reviewed 16 October 2026.
This Frost version fits Ice Lance, Shatter, Ice Block and Cold Snap by choosing control and cooldown recovery over Fingers of Frost. Frost Nova and roots create the useful frozen-target opportunities, but they do not guarantee an uninterrupted burst.
Beta talent allocation: 0/0/21
Frost: 21 points
| Talent | Rank | Effect at this rank |
|---|---|---|
| | 5/5 | Reduces the casting time of your Frostbolt and Frost Blast spells by 0.5 sec. |
| | 3/3 | Increases the duration of your Chill effects by 33% and reduces the target's speed by an additional 10%. |
| | 2/2 | Reduces the cooldown of your Frost Nova spell by 4 sec. |
| | 2/3 | Gives your Chill effects a 10% chance to Freeze the target for 5 sec. |
| | 3/3 | Increases the damage done by your Frost spells by 6%. |
| | 1/1 | Deals 28 to 32 Frost damage to an enemy target. Deals 200% increased damage to Frozen targets. |
| | 1/1 | You become encased in a block of ice, protecting you from all physical attacks and spells for 10 sec, but during that time you cannot attack, move, or cast spells. |
| | 3/3 | Increases the critical strike chance of all your spells against Frozen targets by 50%. |
| | 1/1 | Finishes the remaining cooldown on all your other Frost spells. |
How to play this beta version
- Use Frostbolt and movement to preserve distance, then Ice Lance when the frozen-target condition is present.
- Use Frost Nova to create a useful window and avoid wasting its control with poorly timed actions.
- Use Ice Block and Cold Snap deliberately; retain a response to the opponent's second approach.
What changes from the 51-point build?
- Ice Barrier needs 31 points and is not available.
- Fingers of Frost is not selected: do not assume its proc supplies a frozen target in this allocation.
For safer group casting and a proc-based frozen-target opportunity, the Frost dungeon variant selects Fingers of Frost but gives up this cooldown package.
Why this beta talent split?
Cold Snap resets the selected Frost cooldown package. Fire Incineration can improve Ice Lance critical chance and Arcane can support wands or Arcane channels, but either five-point dip removes Cold Snap and part of the frozen-target setup.

How to play Frost Control
Use slows and Frost Nova to create distance, then choose an attack that benefits from the frozen target. Fingers of Frost treats your next two spells as if the target were frozen at 2/2; it does not physically root the enemy. Ice Block can buy time against pressure, and Cold Snap resets eligible Frost cooldowns. This allocation does not select Ice Barrier.

Why Frost Control takes these talents
Shatter increases crit chance against frozen targets. Ice Lance unlocks Fingers of Frost, giving access to frozen-target interactions even without a new root. Ice Block and Cold Snap supply emergency cooldowns. Arcane Concentration supports Mana efficiency. The allocation stops short of Ice Barrier, which distinguishes it from a deeper Frost defensive plan.
