How to play this beta version

  1. Keep Righteous Fury active and use Seal of Fury with Judgement for the intended tank utility.
  2. Use baseline Consecration to cover several enemies while maintaining Mana for the next pull.
  3. Treat Bulwark as an emergency absorb and account for the Forbearance lockout before using another affected defensive.

What changes from the 51-point build?

  • Holy Shield needs 31 points; do not use it in the beta rotation.
  • Bulwark and a 21-point Holy Shock build cannot be combined with 21 total points.

The October update removed unintended threat from certain Mana returns and limited Reckoning triggers. This allocation does not depend on that former extra threat or on Reckoning.

Why this beta talent split?

Bulwark is the reason to retain 21 Protection points. Holy Strength can help weapon attacks and Retribution Benediction can reduce instant costs, but neither replaces an emergency absorb equal to maximum health. The protection package also preserves block-based Mana support.

How to play Protection Paladin

Equip a shield, maintain Righteous Fury and establish threat before your group begins attacking. Use Holy Shield against incoming melee attacks and Consecration when multiple enemies need threat. Use your Seal of Fury toolkit to recover loose targets, and watch your Mana between pulls. Coordinate immunity cooldowns with your group because enemies may change targets while you are immune. This allocation does not grant Avenger's Shield.

Why Protection Paladin takes these talents

Templar's Bulwark is the prerequisite for Holy Shield. Redoubt unlocks Shield Specialization, and Improved Righteous Fury supports the tanking role. At 5/5, Reckoning can grant an extra attack after a block or a non-periodic critical hit, with a 1.5-second internal cooldown. Divine Intellect adds a larger Mana pool. Encounter damage, gearing and healer support determine tank suitability; this page does not assign a raid tier ranking.
