Mage leveling guide for WoW Forever, levels 1 to 60

Mage is one of the fastest levelers in WoW Forever and the best all-rounder in the game. You control every fight, make your own food and water, and teleport past travel time entirely. Once AoE farming opens up, your XP per hour is matched only by Hunters. And Hunters cannot make portals.

Best Mage leveling spec

Frost (0/0/21). The leveling king: slows and roots on everything, and the best survivability of the three trees. Forever adds Ice Lance to the Frost toolkit. Fire kills single targets faster but drinks more and dies more; Arcane is a 60 game.

Talent picks are beta-testing notes. They will be updated as new builds land.

Mage key abilities and talents

Mage weapons and gear

Wands and stat sticks. Your damage comes from spells, so prioritize intellect and stamina on gear. Keep your wand current for the levels before your spell rotation fills out. Do not chase spell damage gear aggressively while leveling; it is expensive and unnecessary. Save gold for your mount.

Best professions for Mage

Tailoring + Enchanting is the classic Mage pairing. You make your own bags and gear, disenchant everything else. Herbalism + Alchemy for potion income. Cooking is less critical for you (free food), but the XP buff still applies. Eat anyway.

Mage leveling FAQs

Frost or Fire for leveling?

Frost. The control and survivability mean less downtime and fewer deaths, which beats Fire's higher single-target damage over a full session.

Is AoE farming hard to learn?

The basics take an hour to learn and a week to master. Start small, use terrain, and do not get greedy. One extra mob is the difference between a great pull and a corpse run.

Why is Mage S tier?

Control, self-sufficiency, portals, and AoE farming. No other class combines the fastest XP methods with zero travel costs.
