Shield Specialization sits in row 3 of the Paladin Protection tree. A talent tree is simply the grid of talents for one class role, and you will need Redoubt maxed first. It can take up to 3 points. Max it fully, or put in a few points just to open the rows below.

What Shield Specialization does at each rank

A rank is one level of a talent. Every rank makes the effect a bit stronger. The list below uses the exact wording from the beta client, word for word.

  1. Rank 1: Increases the amount of damage absorbed by your shield by 10%, and gives your blocks a 33% chance to restore 6% of your maximum Mana. May only occur once every 3 sec.
  2. Rank 2: Increases the amount of damage absorbed by your shield by 20%, and gives your blocks a 66% chance to restore 6% of your maximum Mana. May only occur once every 3 sec.
  3. Rank 3: Increases the amount of damage absorbed by your shield by 30%, and gives your blocks a 100% chance to restore 6% of your maximum Mana. May only occur once every 3 sec.

How to reach Shield Specialization

Row 3 opens after you spend 10 points in the earlier Protection rows. Level 20 is the earliest you can pick up Shield Specialization, and you will need Redoubt maxed first.

Is Shield Specialization worth the points?

Every rank makes the effect stronger, so putting in a few points while leveling is totally fine. Max it when the final rank is the heart of your endgame build. And if you only need it as a stepping stone, no shame in stopping early.
